How To Use Google Pay: A Complete Guide

Google Pay is a new Google app for online money transactions that makes your life a lot easier. It’s basically a digital payment app that helps you get up and run over time. The app was previously known as Google Teases. With this Google app, you can easily send and receive money to mobile users. All you need to do is enter the amount and tap to make the payment. This app will work even if the recipient is not on Google Pay in case of zero fee.

Google Pay even lets you store your financial information such as credit, debit, gift and reward cards that you can pay online in the future. You can do online shopping, mobile recharge and more with Google Pay.

Three things are essential if you want to have a Google Pay account.

1. You must have a bank account.
2. Your mobile number must be linked to your account number.
3. You must have an ATM or debit card.

So, are you ready to open your Google Pay account? Here are the steps you need to take to open a Google Pay account.

Steps: How to open a Google Pay account

Step 1: Open Google Play, store and download the Google Pay app.
Step 2: Then select the language of your choice and tap on the arrow (placed in the right corner)
Step 3: Enter your phone number with your bank account (allow your SMS, contacts and location)
Step 4: After that, it will automatically identify your email, click ‘Continue’.
Step 5: A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your mobile number, allowing the app to access it manually.
Step 5: After that, you have to choose Screen Lock or you can create Google PIN. Select the option and click ‘Continue’.
Step 6: Set your Google Screen Lock or PIN.

Your Google Pay account has been created. Now, you need to link your bank account so you can easily transfer money.

Steps how you can add a bank account in Google Pay

Step 1: After completing the initial steps to open the app, tap your name at the top of the screen.
Step 2: A new page will appear asking you to ‘add a bank account’.
Step 3: Multiple options will be displayed, select your ‘Bank Name’ from the list.
Step 4: After selecting the bank, a popup will appear, tap on ‘Allow’.
Step 5: Another popup will show the account link, click ‘OK’.
Step 6: A confirmation SMS will be sent. After that, your mobile number will be verified and then your account will be verified. This is a completely automated process.
Step 7: After confirmation, a new page will appear. Now tap on ‘Enter UPI PIN’ to link new bank account.
Step 8: When you enter the UPI PIN, the bank account will be linked to the Google Pay app.

If you have your UPI PIN, you can use that as well:

  • ‘Don’t know your UPI PIN?’ Click on
  • After that, you must enter the last 6 digits of your ATM or debit card with the expiration date.
  • Then, in the right corner, tap the arrow. OTP will be sent to your number.
  • Now you have to enter your ATM PIN and finally, tap on the right sign.
  • Now you have to set your UPI PIN.
  • You will receive a text message stating that your UPI PIN has been set.

How to send money to someone through Google Pay?

1. How to send money to someone nearby:

Step 1: Open the Google Pay app on both phones.
Step 2: The sender has to move the circle in the middle of the screen towards ‘Payment’. Similarly, the person receiving the money needs to slide down the circle.
Step 3: When it appears, tap on their profile picture. If you don’t see their picture: Go to the Home screen, tap More and scan the QR code. Ask the recipient to pull their QR code so you can scan it.)
Step 4: Enter the amount and details, and select the form of payment.
Step 5: Tap Proceed to make payment.
Step 6: Enter your UPI PIN.

You will receive a notification after payment has been made.

2. Send money to someone anywhere in Your country:

Step 1: Open your Google Pay account
Step 2: Tap a contact to make a payment. If you do not see the person for whom you want to send money, tap on ‘New Payment’ on the home screen and tap on the third option ‘Bank Transfer’. Enter all bank details and tap ‘Continue’.
Step 3: Tap on ‘Payment’ and enter the amount with the details (What is it?)
Step 4: Tap Proceed to make payment.
Step 5: Enter your UPI PIN.

When the money is transferred, you will receive a notification. You will also receive a full SMS from your bank regarding the debited amount.

How to check the Google pay balance?

Step 1: Open Google Pay.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Check Balance’.
Step 3: Enter your UPI PIN. If you can’t see your account balance. You can create a new one.

How to reset your Google pay UPI?

If for any reason you forget your UPI PIN, you can create a new one in no time. You need your debit card details and you need to follow a few steps to create a new UPI PIN.

Step 1: Open Google Pay
Step 2: From top left, tap your image.
Step 3: Then tap on ‘Payment Methods’.
Step 4: Then tap the bank account you want to edit.
Step 5: Tap on ‘Forgot UPI PIN’ again.
Step 6: Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card number, and the expiration date.
Step 7: Create a new UPI PIN.
Step 8: Enter the OTP you received via SMS.

How to change your Google pay UPI PIN

If you want to change your UPI PIN, you need to follow these steps.

Step 1: Open Google Pay.
Step 2. In the upper left corner, tap the photo.
Step 3: Tap ‘Payment Methods’.
Step 4: Tap the bank account you want to edit.
Step 5: Tap on the three dots (upper right corner)
Step 6: Three options will appear, tap on ‘Change UPI PIN’.
Step 7: Create a new UPI PIN, re-enter the PIN for confirmation.

How to close your Google pay account?

If you no longer want to use Google Pay, you can delete your Google Pay account.

Step 1: Open Google Pay
Step 2: In the top left corner, tap your profile photo.
Step 3: Then tap on ‘Close Account’.
Step 4: Then install the app from your phone.

After closing your account, Google Pay will associate your bank accounts with the Google Pay app.
